Recovery Services
Since opening its doors in 1969, the Gulf Cost Center has been providing mental health and mental retardation (MHMR) services to residents of Brazoria and Galveston counties. The center also offers substance abuse recovery programs under the sponsorship of the Texas Commission on Alcohol and Drug Abuse.
Mental Health Services

The Gulf Coast Center offers a variety of mental health services to eligible
residents of Brazoria and Galveston counties who suffer from chronic and
severe types of mental illness, such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder,
and major depression.
- Medical Services - Psychiatrists and other medical and nursing personnel provide evaluations and medications for those individuals in need. Contracts with local hospitals make inpatient hospitalization available for crisis stabilization.
- Supported Employment - This program helps patients find employment opportunities in the community. It also provides long-term, ongoing support once a person finds a job.
- Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) - A program of intense treatment and support to help persons with mental illness maintain independence in their community.
- Supported Housing - A service designed to help patients live in an independent setting in their community . Assistance and intensive training in ordinary living skills are provided as needed to persons in an "at-home" or small group setting.
- PATH Program - Provides one-time only rental assistance, various deposits, and household start-up expenses to former homeless persons with mental health or substance abuse problems.
- Children's Services - Provides a wide range of community-based services targeted to children and adolescents who have a severe emotional, behavioral, or mental disorder.

Substance Addiction Recovery Services
The Gulf Coast Center provides screening and referral to recovery programs for individuals
