Transportation
The Galveston County Health Access Program provides limited assistance with transportation needs through two organizations: Galveston Island Transit and Connect Transit ( a program with the Gulf Coast Center).
The Galveston Island Transit System
- Free transportation for individuals with medical appointment slips from the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB). Show your UTMB appointment slip to a driver and you will not be charged for the trip to or from the your appointment.
- Depending on your needs, free tokens are available from the Jesse Tree and a few other community organizations.
- Fixed route fares for persons with disabilities are also available. Regular adult rates are 60 cents and 30 cents for children, disabled persons, senior citizens.
- The Galveston Island Transit System operates weekdays and Saturday from 5:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Connect Transit Program
- Available to people in small, urban, and rural areas of Galveston County where the regular Galveston Island Transit system does not operate. The service will pick you up at your doorstep (or your apartment office).
- People who are traveling to or from the 4C's Clinics or the Jesse Tree and request the service at least 24 hours before their appointment.
- Shuttle service between the 4C's Clinic in Texas City to the 4C's Clinic in Galveston and on to UTMB is available for patients through Connect Transit.
- If you are using the Gulf Coast Center Connect Transit program and not traveling through a program like the CAP program, there is a $1 fee each way, or a $3.50 to go to the Houston Medical Center.
